Ph.D. Opportunity in Computational Geodynamics
The Earth Science Institute (section Geophysics) at J.W. Goethe University Frankfurt invites applications for a fully funded Ph.D. student position in computational geodynamics. The successful candidate will study the transport of geofluids (water, melt) at subduction zone settings. This project involves the application of two-phase flow theory and use of numerical modelling to better constrain subduction zone data (earthquakes, magma composition, etc.). Supervisors will be Dr. Guillaume Richard and Prof. Harro Schmeling, in collaboration with Dr. H. Iwamori (University of Tokyo, Japan). Overseas collaboration implies stays in Tokyo. Applicants should be highly motivated, creative and have a master degree (or equivalent) in Earth sciences, Physical/Mathematical sciences or Computer sciences. Experience in scientific programming would be a plus. Our institute is a modern and diverse environment emphasizing multidisciplinary interactions. Complete applications must include statement of personal interests, curriculum vitae and contact information of two referees, and should be sent to Dr. G. Richard (paper form accepted, electronic form preferred). Review of applications will start immediately and continue until the position is filled (successful candidate is expected to start no later that October, 1st 2008, thus application deadline is set to September, 12th 2008). Please visit the dedicated web page, at http://www.geophysik.uni-frankfurt.de/~richard or contact Dr. G. Richard (richard@geophysik.uni-frankfurt.de) for up to date information. |
