The Division of Economic Geology and Petrology, Institute of Mineralogy, Faculty of Geoscience, Geoengineering and Mining, TU Bergakademie Freiberg, Germany, offers

Four PhD Positions in Economic Geology
starting on August 1st, 2018

The Division of Economic Geology and Petrology is currently seeking four highly motivated PhD candidates. The Federal State of Saxony and the European Social Fund ESF (starting on August 1st, 2018) will fund the positions for 3 years contingent on final approval. The salary and social benefits are according to 75% TV-L 13.

Project Description
The goal of this project is to gain novel insights into the genesis of hydrothermal ore deposits of the Erzgebirge metallogenetic province. Based on these findings, we plan to develop innovative exploration vectors that can be applied in exploration and evaluation of ore deposits in Saxony. The four candidates will collaborate closely, but focus on different deposit-types to obtain a comprehensive understanding of all relevant ore-forming processes. Joint goal is a comprehensive mineral systems analysis of the Erzgebirge. The four sub-projects are: A) skarn mineralization, B) polymetallic veins, C) Ag-Bi-Co-As veins, and D) fluorite-barite-Pb-Zn veins. All sub-projects centre on fluid inclusion analysis (microthermometry, LA-ICP-MS, Raman, CL) complemented by petrography, mineral chemistry and isotope geochemistry. Publications of results in leading peer-reviewed journals and presentations at international and national conferences are essential tasks in all sub-projects. Attendance of additional courses and involvement in teaching is compulsory.
