Job description:

The project "Fate of light- and mobile elements in magmatic-hydrothermal greisen systems - a combined study of minerals, fluids and gases" is part of the DFG priority program "Dynamics of Ore Metals Enrichment" and is a collaboration between the TU Bergakademie Freiberg, the Goethe-University Frankfurt as well as the Helmholtz Institute Freiberg for Resource Technology. The aim of this project is to characterize trace- and light element systematics (including boron-isotopes) of greisen-related minerals as well as the composition and the spatio-temporal evolution of greisen-fluids. We aim to significantly improve the understanding of the underlying processes resulting in Li and Sn enrichment in greisen systems. LA-ICP-MS analyses of greisen minerals will be carried out to determine their chemical/isotopic composition; this is complemented by fluid inclusion analyses (microthermometry, LA-ICP-MS, Raman). The project includes extensive field work and sampling, which will be carried out in close collaboration with associated industry partners. Publication of the results in international high-ranking journals and the attendance of conferences is an essential task within the project.

What we offer:

We expect:

  • Diploma or master degree (university level) in in the field of geosciences
  • Experience in fluid inclusion analyses, LA-ICP-MS analyses and/or economic geology are beneficial
  • A candidate suitable to carry our field work, including work in underground mines
  • A person who is able to work independently and willing to become acquainted with new and complex topics
  • Very good spoken and written English skills
