![]() Three Full ProfessorshipsThe Institute of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the Albert-Ludwigs-University Freiburg, Germany invites applications for three Full Professorships (W3) in the following areas of expertise: Sub-Surface Geophysics: The successful applicant will be responsible for the investigation of the sub-surface structure of the Earth’s crust using methods of applied geophysics. Main research topics may include, but are not limited to, water migration in bedrock, the characterisation of geohazard areas (e.g. slope instability, karst collapse hazard), and search for possible reservoirs. A contribution to the fields of research undertaken at the Faculty of Environment and Natural Resources (natural resource use, natural disasters) is expected. The successful applicant will be developing and teaching specific modules in the key areas Solid Earth Geophysics and geodynamics, including the application of numerical simulations and field courses in geophysics in bachelor and master programs (e.g. B.Sc. Geosciences, M.Sc. Geology, M.Sc. Crystalline Materials). Mineralogy and Petrology: The successful applicant will be responsible for quantitative research on both the genesis and alteration of crystalline rocks, and for thermodynamic-geochemical modelling of processes, particularly those that occur at the interfaces between geosphere, atmosphere, hydrosphere, and biosphere. Research fields may include, but are not limited to, rockwater interactions, hydrothermal alteration, and weathering. The successful applicant will be expected to teach courses in the two key areas Mineralogy and Petrology, at the bachelor (B.Sc. Geosciences) and master (M.Sc. Geology) levels. Sedimentology: The successful applicant will be responsible for research and teaching in the field of sedimentology. This will involve research into deposition and erosion processes as well as diagenesis, using modern quantitative methods. Main research topics may include interactions between climate, relief, vegetation, soil genesis, and anthropological influences, and the investigation of recent natural processes (natural hazards such as floods, landslides and associated risk assessments). Contribution to the fields of research within the Faculty of Environment and Natural Resources (use of natural resources, adaptation to global change, natural hazards) is expected. The successful applicant will develop and teach specific modules offered in this field at the bachelor and master levels (e.g. B.Sc. Geosciences, M.Sc. Geology). Applicants for all three positions should be internationally active scholars with a proven recognition for their research on a broad range of topics in fundamental and applied fields. Close cooperation with fellow professors of the Institute of Earth and Environmental Sciences as well as cooperation within the faculty and with research institutes outside the university environment is expected. We are seeking persons with excellent qualifications in the above-mentioned areas, a high competency in project management and teaching, and a demonstrated ability to cooperate in interdisciplinary research. The development of a nationally and internationally connected research group is expected. A willingness to seek extramural funding for research and to participate in activities across faculties is expected. The University of Freiburg aims at increasing the number of women in professorial positions and therefore strongly encourages qualified women to apply for this position. Disabled applicants with appropriate qualifications will be given preference. The employment regulations in § 47 of the Baden- Württemberg University Law apply. In the event of an applicant being appointed to the position of professor for the first time, a probationary period will apply. However, an exception can be granted. Applications must include the following documents:
