Teaching and research position in Applied Micropaleontology

The Department of Earth Sciences (DESTE) of the University of Geneva, Switzerland, invites applications to fill a teaching/research position in "Applied Micropaleontology".

The selected candidate is expected to carry out research in the field of Micropaleontology. She/he will be responsible for the introduction course in Micropaleontology for Bachelor students. Further duties include participation/organization of field classes, co-supervision of Bachelor, Master and PhD students, and contribution to the management of laboratories in the Department.

We are particularly interested in candidates using different microfossils to date and document key climatic changes and oceanographic changes throughout Earth history. This research theme is also expected to bring new insights on the evolutionary response of microorganisms to climatically induced environmental changes. Research specialties may include - but are not limited to - taxonomy, diversity and phylogenetic analyses of key microfossil groups, quantitative biostratigraphy, and shell geochemistry. This position will reinforce the expertise in sedimentary geology at the DESTE (https://www.unige.ch/sciences/terre/fr/earth-sciences-department/).

The position will be offered at postdoctoral level. The initial appointment will be for two years with a possible extension for a max of thee additional years.

The successful candidate is expected to start by February 2020 or as otherwise agreed.

A PhD in Earth Sciences or a related field at the time of appointment and a record demonstrating the capacity of independent research are required. The candidate is expected to teach in French at the Bachelor level. Therefore, demonstrated French proficiency at time of application will be considered an advantage.
