The Faculty of Geoscience and Geography, Georg-August-University of Goettingen, is offering a
Research and Teaching Position
(„Akademische Rätin / Akademischer Rat“; A13 BBesO)
in Sedimentology / Sedimentary Petrology
beginning as early as possible.
The successful candidate has completed an excellent doctoral thesis in a relevant field of geosciences. His/her specific expertise covers siliciclastic petrology and geochemistry, provenance and basin analysis as well as interaction between sedimentation, tectonics, and climate. Further expertise in thermochronology, numerical modeling, IT, GIS, and/or (geo)statistics are highly welcome. The appointment is for three years with an option for three more years according to § 31 NHG.
Duties and responsibilities comprise collaboration in various research projects of the Department of Sedimentology and Environmental Geology as well as developing an independent research profile including acquisition of scientific funding. The Geoscience Center at Göttingen University offers a wide range of state-of-the-art analytical facilities (e.g., XRF, XRD, ICP-OES, TIMS, (LA)-ICPMS, ESEM, VSI, EMP and K/Ar, FT and (U-Th)/He thermochronology), and an excellent environment for inter-disciplinary geoscientific research (http://www.gzg.uni-goettingen.de).
The successful applicant is required to take part in teaching at the Bachelor and Master level (4 hours/week during lecture periods) in geosciences (e.g.: sedimentology, sedimentary petrology, diagenesis, facies and basin analysis as well as field trips). Participation in academic administration is obligatory.
