Tenure Track W2 Professorship in Petrology

(Beamte BesGr W2 NBesO W2 t.t. W3 ) for appointment at the earliest possible date. This is a W2 tenure-track appointment initially for a period of five years (§ 28 NHG). Following a positive evaluation, the position holder will be appointed to a permanent W3 professorship.

Candidates should have a strong background in petrology in both research and teaching with particular emphasis on using quantitative approaches on different spatial and temporal scales to study high-grade metamorphic and / or magmatic processes within the Earth and terrestrial planets. Further research areas may include, but are not limited to, the investigation of high-temperature hydrothermal systems and corresponding ore-forming processes.

We are looking for a creative and integrative Earth scientist who applies innovative methods in research as well as teaching and who has a proven track record of working in an interdisciplinary environment within their faculty and university as well as internationally. We offer an attractive working environment as well as state-of-the-art analytical infrastructure at one of the leading Earth sciences centres in Germany

The successful applicant is expected to teach in one or more of the faculty's educational programs (MSc / BSc Geosciences, PhD). Prerequisites for the position are the demonstrated ability to perform research-oriented teaching, an outstanding and internationally visible publication activity, as well as proven ability to attract external funding. Candidates must hold an habilitation degree or an habilitation-equivalent qualification.

The requirements for an appointment at the professorial level can be found in § 25 of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act (NHG) in the currently valid version. Applicants who have completed their doctoral studies at the University of Göttingen can usually only be considered if they have been doing research at another university for at least two years after completing their doctorate.
