"Juniorprofessur" of Structural Geology
(W1 with tenure track option to W2)



within the Institute of Geography and Geology.

The candidate should bring expertise in the field of structural geology with special emphasis on the reconstruction of upper crustal structure by combining field geology, borehole and laboratory study, and geophysical imaging techniques. Specializations may include areas of fault, basin structure and reservoir-cap rock analyses in marine and continental systems, with relevance to understanding deformation mechanisms, basin history, fluid-rock interactions and georesource potentials (e.g. geoenergy and gas storage). Interests in the deformation of glacial-sedimentary sequences are also welcome. Links to our existing research activities will be welcomed, which include geothermal/geoenergy hydrogeology, marine geoscience, palaeontology, quaternary science, and sustainable resource usage, as well as the University's current programme in Environmental Change and Adaptation (ECRA).

The successful candidate is expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the area of structural geology, as well as introductory geology courses, and to supervise graduate students in this domain. Teaching will be in German and English. Working experience in other countries will be viewed positively, as will the willingness to support the activities of academic self-organization and administration.

The conditions of appointment will be made according to paragraph § 62 section 1 of the state law for higher education in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (Landeshochschulgesetz Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, LHG M-V): a university degree, teaching experience and a level of scientific research achieved by a successful doctorate qualification. In accordance with § 62 LHG M-V, the "Juniorprofessur" will be appointed for an initial three year period with the status of a civil servant (Beamtenverhältnis). After successful evaluation of this period, the position can be extended for a further three years in order to complete the "Juniorprofessur" phase. An appointment as a full time permanent W2-Professor is then possible following a successful evaluation by the appointment committee, according to state higher education law (§§ 58 ff. LHG M-V).

Conditions of employment include that the candidate has gained post-doctoral experience at another institution of higher education other than where the doctor study was conducted (§ 59 Abs. 6 S. 2 LHG M-V).
