The Institute of Geography and Geology at the University of Greifswald's Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences invites applications for a
for appointment at the earliest possible date, subject to budgetary regulations.
The candidate should be an expert in the field of palaeontology and environmental change with special emphasis on reconstructing climate change in marine/continental systems throughout earth's history. We are particularly interested in developing the field of quaternary science, and the candidate is expected to make a significant contribution to this topic. Links to other research activities will be welcomed, in particular in the fields of sedimentology, regional geology, physical geography marine geology and geochemistry, hydrogeology, soil ecology and sustainable resource development. The candidate should have a distinct background in geology, be a committed field researcher and willing to contribute to the University's current key field of research, "Environmental Change: Response and Adaptation (ECRA)".
The successful candidate is expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the fields of palaeontology, earth history and quaternary science in both English and German; and to supervise graduate students in these areas. Professional experience in other countries will be viewed positively, as will the willingness to support the activities of academic self-organisation and administration. The institute is also equipped with laboratory facilities for micro-palaeontological studies and with paleontological collections.
Scientists at an early career phase are particularly encouraged to apply. Applicants must meet the general employment law requirements as well as the employment requirements stipulated in § 58 Landeshochschulgesetz M-V (Higher Education Act). In addition to a doctorate, candidates must be able to prove outstanding scientific achievements.
The professorship is initially filled for a period of four years (§ 61(1) LHG M-V). The position is provided with a tenure track (W2). Appointment to the permanent W2 professorship requires the position holder to meet the prerequisites for appointment. Furthermore, the candidate's suitability for appointment to the W2 professorship must be determined as part of a corresponding appointment procedure (§ 58 ff. LHG M-V analog).
This vacancy is open to all applicants, irrespective of gender.
