The Geological Survey of Finland (GTK) is one of the leading geosciences research centers in Europe. We are seeking a Research Scientist to manage and develop our new micro-computed tomography facility to be established this spring at the GTK Espoo office. The job will entail the day to day operation of the laboratory as well as facilitating and managing scientific and technology development projects to the highest standard. Main work will be as part of an interdisciplinary team engaging in basic scientific research as well as development of new and innovative experimental techniques and technology combinations. Hence a good understanding and experience in using other modern research instruments and techniques such as ICP-MS and FE-SEM is a bonus. Commercial work will also be important for the laboratory and the applicant will be expected to carry out and develop such activities.
The Research Scientist is expected to have a Ph.D. degree in natural sciences and experience with micro-computed tomography as the core activity. Postdoctoral experience is a bonus. The successful candidate must be highly motivated and benefits from having a well-established international network. Research experience in cooperation with material scientists and the private sector is appreciated, as well as experience from project generation and applying for external funding. Special emphasis is placed on collaborative skills working in research projects with international partners, as well as the ability to facilitate competence development at GTK. Fluency in English is the minimum language requirement.
The appointment is a permanent position, and is located at our Espoo office. GTK has a unique laboratory infrastructure with in-house facilities ranging from a mineral processing pilot plant to a full complement of microanalytical instrumentation located in Espoo and Outokumpu. GTK is a core partner of the EIT RawMaterials KIC consortium. We offer an internationally oriented work environment with highly trained personnel. Benefits of the job include a working week of 36 hours with daily flexibility, generous annual holidays and a government healthcare and pension plan. Beginning salary will be between 3 330-4 020 euros/month depending on experience and qualifications.
