We are looking for a chief expert in urban and engineering geology to promote engineering geology research and development work in the field of land-use planning and civil engineering in Finland and internationally. We offer you a very interesting and challenging position in an evolving and international work environment. Your working community consist of highly experienced and motivated geologists, geophysicists and engineers. Your role is to have a wide-ranging influence on your own field. As a chief expert, you are responsible for advancing engineering geology research field and strengthening GTK's research capacity at GTK. Participating to the implementation of research projects and co-ordination of project activities and the development of competence of the personnel. As a chief expert, you actively contribute to your specialist interest groups, stakeholders and customer relationships as well as the development of GTK's role in the civil engineering sector. As a chief expert, you demonstrate your motivation and ability to develop your staff skills and strengthen GTK's engineering geological research capabilities. The results should create new know-how, innovations and customer-oriented applications.
As an expert, you are ready to take GTK's (model-based) engineering geology research forward with customer-orientation and collaboration with key players in the field (including cities, public administration organizations, construction companies and consulting firms). You have demonstrated your networking skills and experience with engaging with stakeholders. It is an advantage that you will have the ability to launch and coordinate research projects through various financial instruments at domestic and international level.
Your previous experience from engineering geology should include some elements regarding rock engineering, rock mechanics/rock quality assessments, geotechnical engineering or quaternary/bedrock geology. Your background experience may be from consulting, university or other research organization. Expertise in GIS-, engineering design-, BIM-related- and modern geological 3D modeling software are seen as an advantage, however, is not a necessity.
For all applicants, we require a higher university degree in geology, geotechnical engineering or rock mechanics field. You are ready for occasional travel both at domestic and abroad. Fluent English and Finnish language skills are advantage.

The task is filled to Chief Expert or Senior Specialist, depending on applicant's level of expertise. The person is first selected for a five-year term, after which a post-employment relationship may be possible. Beginning salary for Chief expert will be between 4 310 - 5 310 euros/month depending on experience and qualifications and 3 810 - 4 590 euros/month for Senior Specialist.
The benefits of the job include a working week of 36.75 hours with daily flexibility, weekly 2-3 days telecommuting opportunity, generous annual holidays and a healthcare and pension plan. You will be positioned at GTK's Espoo office. The office is a high end, newly renovated and homelike working environment with very pleasant atmosphere located right in the Otaniemi center next to subway station.
