Research Professor or Associate Research Professor in Minerals Processing
The Geological Survey of Finland (GTK), established in 1885, is a leading European competence center in the assessment and sustainable use of geological resources. GTK is expert organisation under Finland's Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment, employing approximately 420 full-time staff who are effectively engaged in tasks at the local, national and international level. A particular feature of GTK is our Mintec Pilot Plant facility in Outokumpu, which comprises a world-class research mineral processing facility that performs plant trials and testing of ores from Finland and around the world.
We are looking for a Research Professor or Associate Research Professor in Minerals Processing with focus on hydrometallurgy and/or flotation. You will develop state-of-the-art research and innovations, as well as customer-oriented applications, such as digital solutions for improved processing efficiency. You are expected to successfully bid for competitive research funding sources, and to initiate, prepare and lead national and international science and innovation (S&I) projects in the field, thus implementing strategic competence development.
For the Research Professor position a PhD degree in geosciences or a closely related discipline is required. You are a recognized international expert in minerals processing as applied to hydrometallurgy and/or flotation, and you have an excellent track record and experience in S&I activities related to minerals processing. Alternatively, the position may also be filled as an Associate Professor. In that case a PhD in Mineral Processing or Minerals Engineering is required in addition to a good postdoctoral experience in the field. Research experience in cooperation with industry is a merit.
You must be highly motivated, have well-established networks with international research groups, and be able to demonstrate an ability to attract external funding. Excellent communication skills in English are expected. A good understanding and experience in the use of modern instrumentation and techniques in minerals processing is essential.

The appointment is for five years, with the possibility of extension. The preferred starting date is 1.1.2020. You will be located in Finland at our Espoo or Outokumpu office.
