Research Professor or Associate Research Professor in Mathematical Geology

We are looking for a Research Professor or Associate Research Professor in Mathematical Geology with focus on Geoinformatics. You will develop state-of-the-art research and innovations as well as customer-oriented applications. You are expected to successfully bid for competitive research funding sources, and to initiate, prepare and lead national and international (S&I) projects in the field, thus implementing strategic competence development.

For the Research Professor position a PhD degree in geosciences or a closely related discipline is required. You are an internationally recognized expert in Mathematical Geology, and you have an excellent track record and experience in science and innovations (S&I) activities related to Mathematical Geology research - particularly application of machine learning and big data analytics. Alternatively, the position may also be filled as an Associate Research Professor. In that case a PhD degree in geosciences or another closely related discipline is required in addition to a good postdoctoral experience in Mathematical Geology. Experience in machine learning and big data analytics in geosciences is a merit for the position.

You must be highly motivated, have well-established networks with international research groups and be able to demonstrate an ability to attract external funding. Excellent communication skills in English are expected.

GTK has a unique laboratory infrastructure with in-house facilities ranging from a mineral processing pilot plant to a full complement of microanalytical instrumentation located in Espoo and Outokumpu.

The appointment is for five years, with the possibility of extension. The preferred starting date is 2.1.2020 or upon agreement. You will be located at one of our offices in Finland (Espoo, Kuopio, Kokkola, Outokumpu or Rovaniemi). The starting salary for research professor is 5950-6340 eur/month and for the associate professor 5080-5410 eur/month.
