Senior Scientist in Geometallurgy

The Geological Survey of Finland (GTK) is looking for an experienced geometallurgist to work within the Circular Economy Solutions Unit in our Espoo offices and laboratories in Finland. You will be responsible for developing new ideas for geometallurgical research in the area of primary raw materials, with a particular emphasis on battery minerals.

The position will involve working with geological, mineralogical, mining, mineral processing, and recycling aspects of the battery mining value chain, and to embrace, improve and challenge the Circular Economy concepts and ethos. The successful applicant will work in a range of professional environments, from unsupervised field-based studies (outcrop, core examination, superficial deposits), to careful and detailed analysis & interpretation of geo-analytical laboratory data, through to desk top grass roots research, and public presentation of results at conferences, corporate events and general mining business meetings.

What we expect

  • We expect you to have a PhD in geometallurgy, with at least 4 years additional relevant multi-disciplinary post-doctoral level experience
  • You have experience in the geometallurgy of battery minerals
  • A comprehensive knowledge of geo-analytical techniques (SEM, EPMA, XRD, ICP-MS), automated mineralogy and geometallurgical characterization techniques, for example, crushability, grindability, and floatability is expected
  • A sound knowledge and hands-on experience in the use of mineral processing methods (gravity, magnetic, flotation, leaching, for example) is also essential
  • You have an excellent command of spoken and written English
  • Proven knowledge of making the links between geology, mineralogy and processing behaviour through modelling and such like is expected
  • You are an adaptable team player, but also to take the initiative and work independently on new and highly innovative projects
  • You should be passionate about learning new things, work well under pressure, and have good prioritisation skills, so that you can quickly adapt to changes and seize opportunities as and when they arrive
  • We expect you to be highly innovative and development-oriented

Information about pay

The total salary at the beginning of employment will be approximately EUR 3900-4700 per month.
