Research Scientist (Artificial Intelligence assisted seismic data analysis)

Geological Survey of Finland (GTK), Geophysical Solutions Unit is looking for a researcher in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) assisted reflection seismic data analysis. Your office is located in Espoo.

You will be responsible of a research project focused on development of AI tools for seismic reflection data interpretation in the context of the deep and medium-deep geothermal targets in crystalline rocks. Our work matters! We want to provide services that will help Finland and Europe in their aim to start using geothermal energy more extensively as part of becoming a carbon neutral society and utilize geophysical methodologies to promote improved decision making for geothermal plant planning.

The research project duration is two year (24 months) and it will be done in close collaboration with our client. You will be using both already existing data as well as participating in planning and acquisition of new seismic reflection data in urban environment. You will be responsible of reporting the results of your research to client and scientific publishing.

What we expect

  • You hold a PhD in geophysics, physics, applied mathematics or related field
  • You have experience in seismic reflection data processing and interpretation
  • You have experience in developing AI tools
  • You understand challenges of hardrock seismic reflection data
  • You have peer reviewed publications with relevant topics
  • You have excellent command of both written and spoken English

We appreciate

  • experience in using high-performance computing resources and/or cloud computing
  • experience in seismic forward modelling based on geological models
  • experience in seismic attributes analysis, especially automatic fault extraction workflows
  • experience with scientific funding acquisition
  • You have experience in developing AI tools specifically for seismic data analysis

Information about pay

The total salary at the beginning of employment will be approximately EUR 4003-4266 € per month depending on your qualifications.

The position is fixed term. The staring date is 1.2.2022 or by agreement. The term is for two years.
