Research professor, marine geology and environment


The Geological Survey of Finland (GTK) invites applications for a five-year term as a research professor. The field of research is geological research on the seabed and its environmental applications, especially in the Baltic Sea region. The responsibility of the research professor will be to generate research-based information to support decision-making in order to secure the sustainable use and health of marine areas.

In addition to conducting research, the research professor will be responsible for developing the field within GTK and for scientific cooperation both in Finland and internationally.

To perform these duties successfully, the candidate must have an applicable PhD and extensive expertise in the field, demonstrated through published research and a proven track record of practical experience. The tasks also require experience of cooperating in and leading research projects as well as broad contacts with the scientific community and other interest groups in Finland and abroad. We also appreciate teamwork skills, innovation and a good command of English.

GTK's pay system contains both a position-specific and a personal element. The position-specific element is defined by how demanding the position is. The personal element is set on the basis of performance.

This post carries an annual position-specific salary of EUR 49 500 - 58 000, on top of which we pay up to 40% of the position-specific pay component, based on personal work performance. You may also present your own salary requests.

Benefits include a workweek of 36 hours with daily flexibility, five to six weeks annual holiday, extensive occupational health services and a pension plan.
