The Institute of Geology invites applications for a position as a

Postdoctoral scientist

(Salary Scale E13 TV-L, 100%)

to be appointed on 01.12.2013 or later. The position is limited to 2 years with possible extension for a third year.

Project description

The postdoc position is offered in the framework of a DFG-funded research project dedicated to the tectonic and geomorphological evolution of forearcs during ridge subduction. Using three-dimensional numerical modelling (finiteelement software ABAQUS), the postdoc will investigate the tectonic and topographic evolution of the upper plate caused by a subducting submarine ridge.

To investigate the impact of ridge subduction on the geomorphological evolution of the forearc, the tectonic models will be coupled to a landscape evolution model. Model results will be applied to the tectonic history and topographic setting of natural case studies (e.g., Peru, Central America).

Employment conditions

To qualify for the position, applicants must hold a doctoral or PhD degree in geosciences (geology or geophysics). Knowledge and experience in numerical modelling (preferably in the field of tectonics), the geodynamics of subduction zones and tectonic geomorphology are of advantage. Experience in working with Linux/Unix computer systems and in the use of the software packages "Generic Mapping Tools" (GMT) and/or ArcGIS are expected or must be acquired during the project. Good skills in oral and written English as well as the willingness to present the results at international conferences and to publish them in peerreviewed journals are required.

As an equal opportunities employer, Leibniz Universität Hannover intends to promote women and men in the context of statutory requirements.
