The Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf e. V. (HZDR) is a research centre with more than 900 employees and is a member of the Helmholtz Association (HGF). The scientific key aspects are in the field of matter, energy and health. The research is performed in seven scientific institutes which cooperates inside the HGF as well as the universities, extra-faculty institutes and the industry. The recently established Helmholtz-Institute Freiberg for Resource Technology (HIF) - one of the divisions of the HZDR - seeks to appoint a post-doctoral



Research Associate in Resource Analysis (m/f)



The Resource Analysis Group developsand applies advanced analytical techniques for the characterization and evaluation of primary and secondary metalliferous raw materials. The place of employment is Freiberg. The position is available as of 01.03.2012 and is initially limited to two years.The salary is according to German Public Service classification (TVöD).

Requirements:

The successful candidate will have:

  • A doctorate in mineralogy, geochemistry, analytical chemistry or related fields;
  • Advanced knowledge in the area of local analysis (in particular electron microprobe and/or LA-ICPMS analysis)
  • Basic knowledge of physics, electronics and physical-chemical analytical techniques, an aptitude for experimentation, team-working skills and an ability to work in an interdisciplinary manner
  • Interest and willingness to work collaboratively in the Resource Analysis Group
  • Good English language skills and at least a basic knowledge of German

Tasks:

  • Responsible operation and management of large equipment in the Resource Analysis Group
  • Development and implementation of research projects in microanalysis (particularly electron microprobe analysis and/or LA-ICPMS) of mineralogical and metalliferous raw materials
  • Assisting M.Sc. and Ph.D. students in the operation of available micro-analytical techniques at the HIF
  • Development and optimization of micro-analytical techniques for low level detection limits with regard to high lateral and depth resolution in complex matrices
  • Application of these techniques to problems in resource analysis
  • Design and implementation of research work in interdisciplinary teams.
