Institute of Petroleum Engineering,
Edinburgh Time-Lapse Project

Research Associate - Reservoir Engineer

Fixed term 3 years

The Edinburgh-Time Lapse Project (ETLP) is a joint-industry project focussed on quantitative 4D seismic analysis. It operates within the Institute of Petroleum Engineering, Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh. There is currently an opening in our team for a research associate/postdoctoral researcher with a background in reservoir engineering to perform innovative research on simulation and history matching and to provide technical support for the group.

Applicants should have an extensive practical knowledge of flow simulation modelling using commercial software such as Eclipse and history matching techniques. Some experience in the use of modelling software such as Petrel and the analysis of 4D seismic data is of advantage but not a necessity. There is also a requirement to support our PhD student community in technical aspects of reservoir engineering, computing, and software programming, and to interact with fellow RAs working on simulation model updating. We expect you to be competent researcher, a good communicator and a team player.

Applicants must possess an excellent first degree and/or masters, and a PhD in an appropriate topic related to simulation modelling and history matching. Whilst several years experience working in industry is not essential, it will be regarded as beneficial to this appointment.
