MSc in Petroleum Geoscience


The MSc in Petroleum Geoscience is a 12-month full-time course with an international reputation for excellence, delivered by experienced lecturers and professionals who are acknowledged as experts in their field. The course provides the full range of multidisciplinary skills needed in the modern oil industry. Its unique collaborative links with a sister MSc in Petroleum Engineering allow the course to cover the full spectrum of hydrocarbon exploration and production activities.

  • Covers all aspects of hydrocarbon exploration and production through advanced-level lecture courses, fieldwork (in the UK and USA), integrated team projects and independent research.
  • Teaches modern petroleum industry methods and practices, utilising state-of-the-art software and hardware in dedicated classroom facilities.
  • Provides training in core petroleum geoscience subjects and allied disciplines.
  • Team projects in field development (integrating MSc Petroleum Geoscience and Petroleum Engineering classes), and play/prospect evaluation.
  • Develops transferable skills and time/project management.

London is an international centre for the oil and gas industry, and provides access to professional associations (AAPG, SPE, PESGB, etc.) for petroleum geoscientists and engineers. Prospective applicants from the UK and EU are advised to apply by 20th January 2017 for an invitation for interview on our course Open Day on 10th February 2017: an excellent opportunity to learn about the course, meet course tutors, view our facilities and talk to current students.
