Department of Earth Science & Engineering

Research Associate in Digital Rock Physics

Salary: 36,800 - 44,220 p.a.*
Campus: South Kensington

Applications are invited for a Research Associate to work in the field of experimental Digital Rock Physics, in the Department of Earth Science & Engineering at Imperial College London. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Dr Sam Krevor (www.imperial.ac.uk/people/s.krevor). Funding for this post comes from NERC and long-term funding by Qatar Petroleum and Shell through the Qatar Carbonates and Carbon Storage Research Centre (QCCSRC, see www.imperial.ac.uk/qccsrc). The Centre is a joint activity between the Departments of Chemical Engineering and Earth Science and Engineering.

The Research Associate will focus on the development of a mechanistic understanding of the fluid dynamics of multiphase flow at scales ranging from individual rock pores to meter scale core samples at which Darcy's law is conventionally used. The Research Associate will work in the world leading experimental multi scale digital rock petrophysical laboratories, making use of multi scale X-ray imaging and core flooding apparatus. The use of numerical tools - commercial reservoir simulators like ECLIPSE, and numerical toolboxes such as MATLAB - will be integral to the design and interpretation of the observations.

The successful candidate will have a PhD (or equivalent) in Earth Science & Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Physics, Applied Math, Chemical Engineering, Geo-engineering or in a closely related scientific or engineering subject.

The post is available immediately until 31 December 2018 with the possibility of extension. The post is based in the Department of Earth Science & Engineering at Imperial College London (South Kensington Campus).

* Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as a Research Assistant within the salary range 32,380 - 34,040 per annum.

Applications should be made online via our website http://www.imperial.ac.uk/job-applicants/ (please select "Job Search" then enter the job title or vacancy reference number EN20170346AM into "Keywords"). Please complete and upload an application form as directed.
