Research Associate - Numerical Modelling of Copper Transport in Sedimentary Basins
Salary: £40,215 - £47,579 per annum
Applications are invited for a Research Associate to join the Novel Reservoir Modelling and Simulation (NORMS) Group in the Department of Earth Science and Engineering . The successful applicant will use novel numerical methods to model and investigate the flow of copper-rich fluids in sedimentary basins. Flow of such fluids and associated reaction with the surrounding rocks is a critically important part of the system that delivers copper to form ore bodies in sedimentary rocks, yet the fluid dynamical processes that occur remain poorly understood. There is a significant gap in knowledge that will be explored within this project. Discovery and responsible exploitation of these copper deposits makes an essential contribution to the energy transition.
Duties and responsibilities
This is an exciting opportunity for a talented individual to work within a large multi-disciplinary research group, developing and applying advanced modelling techniques to problems of broad interest and significance in Earth Science. The post forms part of a large, cross-disciplinary and multi-institution research project (CuBES - Copper Basin Exploration Science - funded by the UK Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). The overall aim of this large consortium project is to understand the processes within sedimentary basins that form copper ore deposits.

Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as a Research Assistant within the salary range £35,477 - £38,566 per annum
