THE EAST AFRICAN INSTITUTE FOR FUNDAMENTAL RESEARCH
The ICTP-EAIFR is a Category 2 UNESCO institute affiliated with the University of Rwanda and is an ICTP Partner Institute (see http://www.ictp.it/programmes/outreach-activities/eaifr.aspx). The institute is newly created with a view to positioning itself as a leading research and teaching institute in eastern Africa. The institute will grow to have at least 6 full time researchers and 8 postdoctoral fellows and a vibrant visiting scientists programme as well hosting a number of meetings every year. There is special focus on a master's in physics programme with a view to the development of a Ph.D. programme. Presently the institute has four scientific staff (including the Director) two in the field of condensed matter physics, one in astrophysics/cosmology and one in high energy physics/particle physics. Potential future areas include space physics, HPC, climate change and mathematics.

OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST
Under the supervision of the Director the incumbent will undertake research in physics of the solid Earth with emphasis on physics of earthquakes and/or physics of volcanoes and will assist and teach in the master's programmes. Essential responsibilities include:

The post is for three years, on successfully completing a probationary period of one year and is renewable upon mutual agreement. The net annual (expatriate) remuneration depends on the actual post and will start at $36,000 net for Senior Lecturer. RAMA medical insurance is provided. The incumbent automatically has the status of ICTP Associate for 6 years, which allows them to visit the relevant ICTP research group 3 times in that period for a month on each occasion. The conditions for Associates can be found on the ICTP web site.
