Geologist researcher in seismic stratigraphy (M/F)

Location: Centre de Bretagne - BREST
Department: REM (Physical Resources and Deep-Sea Ecosystems)
Research Unit of Géosciences Marines
Laboratoire Environnements Sédimentaires
Date of function : as soon as possible

Job description

Within the "Géosciences Marines" Research Unit and under the responsability of the head of Sedimentary Environments laboratory, she / he will contribute, in cooperation with other researchers, to a better understanding of the setting of sedimentary deposits and to a better assessement and mitigation of geohazards by means of high resolution seismic stratigraphy. Studied themes concern (i) the setting up of sedimentary bodies on passive margins under variations in sediment flux, of sea-level, of climate and tectonics during the Quaternary ; (ii) the characterization and analysis of marine geohazards in relation with tectonics, fluids migration and gas hydrates at time scales from years to millennia.

The candidate must have a high level of expertise in high to very high-resolution seismic reflection data processing and interpretation (single or MCS, deep towed device, 3D seismic). She / he would be able to integrate seismic stratigraphic analyses with sediment physical and mechanical properties obtained from in situ measurements (CPTu, sound velocities), acoustic information from seafloor and laboratory analyses from cores (physical, mechanical and chemical properties, sedimentary facies, chronostratigraphy).

Within the framework of the Ifremer projects " Risques géologiques " and " Systèmes et évolutions sédimentaires ", she / he will have the competency to actively participate in and later on to lead projects and scientific cooperations at national and european levels.

She / he will be encouraged to participate in the evolution of seismic data processing and interpration tools of the "Géosciences Marines" Research Unit.
