MISSION

Attached to the Ground and Underground Risks Division (DRS), within the "Natural Risks and Underground Openings (RNOS)" Unit, the position concerns the multi-physical numerical modeling of thermo-hydro-mechanical and chemical coupled phenomena in geotechnical field applications, that is mining and post mining, underground storage (nuclear waste, gas, CO2, energy) or geothermal energy for example. The studies are based on market calculation codes (COMSOL, FLAC, 3DEC, etc.) as well as the development and coding of specific computational routines. Modeling is a key component of the Unit and is also transversal to the Division.

Involved in collaborative research projects and consulting services:

  • You develop consulting expertise and carry out studies based on the modeling of underground structures or geostructures, fluid transfers in porous media with or without fracturing and on the modeling of wave propagation. You lead all the stages, from the analysis of the customer's need to the expertise and the restitution of the results in reports;
  • You participate in setting up and carrying out collaborative research projects in areas such as the long-term behavior of complex structures or the dissolution of soluble rocks, involving mechanisms of mechanical or chemical alteration of rocks;
  • You carry out expertise work in support of the French administration in matters of safety and preservation of the environment about underground industrial projects. You participate in working groups and committees at national and international level;
  • You actively contribute to the international influence of the group by valuing your studies through conferences and publications in journals.

PROFILE

Holder of a PhD or an engineering degree in geosciences with a solid background in mechanics of deformable solids and fluids, you have a several-year professional experience in numerical modeling of complex problems. The following skills and qualities are needed to hold the position:

  • Fluent French and English, excellent drafting fluency;
  • Rigor, analytical mind;
  • Ability to build-up and manage stand-alone studies and collaborative projects;
  • Sense of partner or client relationship, team spirit;
