PostDoc position in Structural GeologyInstitute of Geology and Paleontology, University of InnsbruckThe potential of AMS (Anisotropy of Magnetic Susceptibility) studies in polyphase deformed rocks. In deformed rocks, AMS is known to document the finite strain also in areas where macroscopic information lacks. In metamorphic and/or polyphase deformed rocks it is comparatively complex to deduce structural information from AMS data, because different fabrics can interfere with each other. To test the potential of the structural interpretation of AMS data, a very complex deformed but already well-studied rock unit will be analysed: the Zentralgneis core of the western Tauern window. The expected results should finally serve as a reference for AMS data determined in areas with complex deformation histories. The AMS measurements for this study will be carried out in the paleomagnetic laboratory of the University of Rome 3. Candidates with a strong background in structural geology and/or magnetic fabric analysis are encouraged to apply. A Ph.D. in Geology or Geophysics as well as experience in field work is required. The project will start as soon as possible. Applications should be addressed to Prof. Bernhard Fügenschuh http://www.uibk.ac.at/geologie/staff/ by January 15, 2012. The project is fully funded for 18 months. |
