![]() Leibniz-Institute for Baltic Sea Research - Warnemünde (IOW) at the University of Rostock The IOW is member of the research association 'Wissenschaftsgemeinschaft Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz (WGL)' and is structured in four departments: Biological Oceanography, Marine Chemistry, Marine Geology, and Physical Oceanography and Instrumentation. Our research is focused on interdisciplinary studies of marine ecosystems with emphasis on the Baltic Sea and coastal oceans. It includes field work with research vessels, laboratory experiments and theoretical studies and numerical modelling. Professors of IOW are involved in teaching at the University of Rostock and in the case of marine geology at the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-University of Greifswald (EMAU). Currently two tenured positions are available at IOW.
In a joined procedure IOW and University of Rostock seek a qualified candidate for the position of
The IOW invites applications of outstanding scientists in the fields of trophic interactions and responses of organisms and food-webs in coastal ecosystems to climate change and human impact. A broad experience in biological oceanography should be complemented by in-depth knowledge in at least one specific area of marine ecology. The interdisciplinary research approach requires a personality capable to integrate marine disciplines. The candidate is also expected to participate actively in research profile "Maritime Systems", initiated at the University of Rostock.
In a joined procedure IOW and EMAU seek a qualified candidate for the position of
The research should be focused on processes describing the interactions between sediments and the hydro- and biosphere in shallow water systems with particular reference to climate variability and change as well as to anthropogenic activities. Broad expertise in marine geological research and in-depth knowledge in one or more areas of marine geoscience are requested. The interdisciplinary approach of IOW´s research demands a scientist which will actively foster scientific cooperation for general themes. The prerequisites for these positions include a habilitation or equivalent qualifications and an international reputation. Outstanding experience in teaching will be considered. The IOW is an equal opportunity employer. Cost for application can not be reimbursed.
Applications with the usual materials (curriculum vitae, publications record, projects, concise outlines of research and teaching ideas at the IOW, the 5 most important publications) be submitted by May 26, 2008 for Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Fennel
