Postdoc position in high temperature stable isotopes geochemistry

The Université de Paris and the Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris (IPGP; http://www.ipgp.fr/en) is seeking applicants for a Postdoctoral position in stable isotope geochemistry. This position is part of a vibrant collaborative project (MYSTHIC) between F. Girault, C. Pisapia and B. Debret (IPGP), funded by the UnivEarthS Labex (http://www.univearths.fr/en/univearths-projects/frontier-projects/f4-mysthic-mobility-versus-storage-of-himalayan-carbon-2/).

The postdoctoral research associate will evaluate the storage and mobility of carbon from the Himalaya deep root to its surface, through the combined use of traditional (δ13C) and non-traditional (δ66Zn, δ65Cu and δ56Fe) stable isotopes. The targets are already-sampled ultra-high pressure metamorphic rocks from the Himalayan suture zone (Ladakh - Tso Morari metamorphic complex), as well as samples from Greater and Lesser Himalayan Sequences. Additional fieldwork(s) will take place in Nepal in 2021. The position will also involve travel in France and Europe to interact with various project members at regular intervals.

The successful applicant should hold a PhD in a relevant discipline (e.g., Earth Sciences, Geochemistry, and Chemistry), and will be experienced in the operation of mass spectrometers (MC-ICP-MS) and in clean room laboratory work. S/he should have excellent laboratory skills. Capacity for interdisciplinary and international teamwork and excellent communication skills will be taken into account.

The Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris houses state-of-the-art facilities for geochemical studies (soon a Sapphire Collision Cell MC-ICP-MS, newly acquired ICPMS-QQQ and TIMS, as well as excellent existing facilities including two MC-ICP-MS, one SF-ICPMS, one Q-ICPMS, a laser ablation and several clean laboratories; see http://www.ipgp.fr/en/pari-platform).

This is a 2 years full-time position. The closing date for applications is the 1st of August 2020. The anticipated starting date will be as soon as possible after the closing date (no later than the 1st of November 2020). Salary will be indexed based on age and experience, around 33 k€ per year without taxes. There are additional funds available for consumables and travel as needed.

Further details of the position can be found from Dr. Baptiste Debret (debret@ipgp.fr) and Dr. Frédéric Girault (girault@ipgp.fr).

Applicants should send a CV (including a publication list) and a cover letter (including the contact details for two professional referees) to Baptiste Debret (debret@ipgp.fr) and Frédéric Girault (girault@ipgp.fr), before the 1st of August, 2020.
