No. 13088 - Townsville The School of Earth and Environmental Sciences has a long tradition of excellence in field-based, applied geology research and teaching supported by world-class analytical facilities. It invites applications from geoscientists with a strong background in field-based research and teaching and a proven track record in structural geology/tectonics/geodynamics. Duties: The appointee is expected to: teach, conduct research, and fulfil administrative duties to support and maintain the strong, dynamic teaching and research base in the School; provide academic leadership within the discipline of geology (depending on appointment level); maintain a high publication output; supervise post-graduate students; raise competitive research funding; make regular contributions to scientific meetings; lead the field programme in geology; teach a variety of geology courses at undergraduate and post-graduate levels, focused on structural geology/tectonics/geodynamics with an understanding of applications to the minerals industry; and help develop the Economic Geology Research Centre in the School. Requirements: The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic geoscientist with extensive field experience and the ambition to lead and build the geology programmes at JCU. The appointee will have a PhD in a relevant field, a publication output indicative of high-profile independent research, experience as a teacher and supervisor at Hons, MSc and/or PhD levels, and a proven ability to raise research funding. Candidates applying at the level of Assoc. Professor or Professor will be expected to provide leadership to the existing team of geology staff in the school, and management and curriculum development experience will be viewed favourably. Knowledge of, and connections with the exploration and mining industries and knowledge of geophysics, modeling and/or material science will also be seen as an advantage. Employment Type: Appointment will be full-time on a continuing basis. Salary: Senior Lecturer - Academic Level C - AUD$97,075 - AUD$111,440 per annum; Associate Professor - Academic Level D - AUD$116,229 -AUD$127,717 per annum; Professor - Academic Level E - AUD$148,789 per annum. Level of appointment and commencing salary will be in accordance with qualifications and experience.
