We now have an exciting opportunity for a Laboratory and Technical Support Specialist, Geosciences, within the Division of Tropical Environments and Societies at James Cook University (JCU). A continuing appointment, this role is based at the Townsville campus in picturesque tropical North Queensland.
The Division of Tropical Environments and Societies recognises the grand challenges facing the world today and the particular role that will be played out in the tropics. Through its four Colleges, the Division of Tropical Environments and Societies is internationally recognised for its world ranking in marine biology, aquaculture, tourism and climate change and is uniquely positioned to deliver excellence across teaching and learning and research in these areas.
An accomplished professional in your field, you will supervise the geochemical/mineralogical processing laboratories and provides specialised technical support for staff and postgraduate students in the development of projects, financial operations and ensure workplace health and safety protocols are adhered to.
You will have a proven ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders as you provide geochemical and isotope services for both internal and external users and clients using specialised and sophisticated equipment. You will conduct geochemical/isotope analysis and sample characterisation by electron microscopy and mass spectroscopy in the Advanced Analytical Centre as well as preparing reports for commercial work as required.
Key to your success will be your extensive experience in geochemical and isotope techniques and the preparation of mineral separates, mineralogy and petrology, particularly in relation to the ability to assess the suitability of samples for analysis.
