Rock and Sample Preparation Research Technician

The University of Kansas Department of Geology seeks to hire a Research Technician for preparation of geological samples. This work includes cutting and polishing of rock samples for preparation of polished thin sections, polished rock slabs and the preparation and polishing of epoxy grain mounts. Work may also include maintenance and repair of rock preparation and microscope equipment, inventory and ordering, and training of other users. Work will include invoicing for services provided and advertising and marketing. There is an original research component. Must have physical ability to operate rock preparation equipment and to prepare thin sections for analysis. Position is contingent upon available funding. Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in the Geosciences, at least one year of training or job experience that is rock-based, and training or experience in petrography. The successful candidate must have appropriate authorization to work in the U.S. before employment begins.
