Lectureship in Structural Geology
(2 year, fixed term appointment)



Salary in the range: Grade 7a £31,514 - £36,533

This fixed term Lectureship in Structural Geology is available from September 2009. Candidates are welcome from individuals committed to high quality teaching and research in Structural Geology.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the delivery of undergraduate programmes in Geology, Geoscience and MGeoscience, in addition to teaching geoscience on our Applied Environmental Science and Environment and Sustainability degrees, as appropriate. It is essential that applicants should be able to contribute to the organisation and delivery of the Geology fieldwork programme, including residential field courses both in the UK and overseas.

Areas of geoscience research at Keele include; applied and environmental geophysics, the structural, stratigraphic and geodynamic evolution of sedimentary basins, subglacial and Ice marginal processes, landforms and environments, igneous and metamorphic petrochemistry, palaeontology and palaeobiology, volcanic and magmatic processes, forensic geophysics and environmental citizenship. Candidates will be expected to develop an active research programme within the Environment, Physical Sciences and Applied Mathematics (EPSAM) research institute that both complements and extends our existing research profile in the Earth Sciences.

Keele offers four undergraduate degree routes in geology; a three-year Dual Honours Geology course leading to a BSc, a three-year BSc Major route in Geology and a four-year MGeoscience degree. In addition a new three-year Single Honours programme in Geoscience will have its first intake in September 2009. These degree programmes emphasise the role of basic scientific understanding and practical skills in the laboratory and field for the analysis and management of geological problems. Geology is part of a thriving and very well equipped School with newly refurbished Geoscience and Analytical laboratories with state of the art facilities for physical, chemical, environmental and forensic analysis. The successful candidate will join a dynamic, expanding Earth Sciences and Geography grouping with an excellent research infrastructure and a strong track record in providing high quality educational programmes.
