The position is available either in the area of late Paleozoic siliciclastic sedimentology and geochronology, or in Early Cretaceous carbonate sedimentology and chemostratigraphy. Research on Paleozoic, pre-Khuff siliciclastics (supervised by Dr. Andreas Ceriani) aims at the improvement of sequence stratigraphic models by using high-resolution geochemistry and geochronology. Research on Early Cretaceous chemostratigraphy (supervised by Dr. Thomas Steuber) aims at the evolution of depositional environments in the context of global environmental change and involves the improvement of sequence-stratigraphic models by using high-resolution geochemistry. The position includes field and laboratory work, and sampling of surface outcrops and well core.
Applicants must be highly motivated and self-directed, must have a recent PhD in Earth Sciences, preferably in the areas of sedimentology, geochemistry or geochronology , significant experience with laboratory work, and have excellent written and spoken English language skills. Applicants will be able to gain supervising experience by working with MSc and PhD students involved in the project. The position is funded for three years, starting 1st July 2019.
