The Department of Geochemistry and Economic Geology at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and the Petrology and Mineral Resources group at the Department of Geosciences at the University of Tübingen (EKUT) invite applications for a joint

PhD Research Fellow

TV-L E13 (75%)

project to start the next possible date. The project will be hosted for the first 18 months at KIT (Karlsruhe) and will be continued for further 18 months at EKUT (Tübingen). The candidate will have the responsibility to conduct internationally visible research in the project "The role of early cumulate formation for HFSE enrichment in foidolitic systems". The project is focused on the Gardiner (Greenland) and Kovdor (Russia) alkaline complexes. Your responsibility will be literature research, petrography, electron microprobe analyses, LA-ICPMS analyses, data interpretation, petrological modelling and publishing of research results in internationally recognized journals. You will be given the opportunity to prepare a PhD thesis.

You have an MSc degree (or equivalent) in geosciences with research interest in magmatic processes in the continental crust and a strong background in alkaline igneous rocks, carbonatites, their economic geology and geochemistry. You are motivated, analytically skilled, open for new research fields and able to communicate with technicians and other researchers.

KIT and EKUT offer an attractive international work place with modern state-of-the-art geochemical lab equipment and access to the world-class analytical pool of the KIT and EKUT. Both groups have a strong team in hydrothermal and magmatic ore deposits, geochemistry of hydrothermal systems and environmental mineralogy. This project is part of the DFG-funded German-wide priority programme "dynamics of metal enrichment - DOME". This priority programme will give you an interesting and challenging environment to work with other researchers in the field of economic geology.

Equal opportunity is an inherent part of our personnel policy. Therefore, we are particularly welcoming applications from qualified women. Disabled persons will be given preferential treatment in the case of equal qualification.

Applications should include a letter of motivation and the usual documents (CV, complete publication list, certificates). Applications should be done online until 15.07.2020 via the link: For information about the position, the project and the institutes, please contact Dr. Benjamin Walter (KIT) or PD Dr. Michael Marks (EKUT), email: Tel.: +49-(0) 721 608-42717, Tel.: +49-(0)7071-29-73077
