You will have the responsibility to conduct internationally visible research in the project "Analysis of potential lithium production from geothermal water in Germany: lithium extraction through sorption (UNLIMITED)", which is part of a larger project with industry and university partners. Your responsibility will be literature research, experimental work in the laboratory and the field, (geo)chemical analysis, data interpretation and publishing of research results in internationally recognized journals. The aim is to develop a method of selectively separating lithium from brines in the framework of geothermal power plants. We expect you to prepare a PhD thesis.
We have a strong team in hydrothermal processes, geochemistry and environmental mineralogy (http://egg.agw.kit.edu/english/index.php) and a partnership with researchers of the Helmholtz topic geothermal energy systems (http://www.ee.kit.edu/english/68.php). This project will be run in close collaboration with colleagues from other institutions and industry. This will give you an interesting and challenging environment, in which you have the chance to play a significant role.
You have an MSc degree (or equivalent) in geosciences or chemistry with research interest in fluid and mineral surface interaction and a strong background in sorptiondesorption, mineralogy and crystallography. You have some experience with clay minerals, zeolite and strong interest in analytical and experimental geochemistry (ICPMS, ICP-OES, IC). You are motivated, open for new research fields and able to communicate with technicians, other researchers and industry.
Salary category 13, depending on the fulfillment of professional and personal requirements.
