An Administrator is required to join an established team engaged in the acquisition of and analysis of petrophysical core and borehole measurement data for the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (IODP). This is an exciting and challenging post providing support for ocean research drilling operations and leading edge scientific research.
You will provide clerical and administrative support for the work of the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (IODP) research group and also for the research activities of the PI (Senior Lecturer in Sedimentology). The group's involvement with IODP is a collaborative venture between the University of Leicester and a number of other universities and organisations in Europe, USA, Japan and other IODP member countries. The position entails frequent contact with personnel from our partner organisations and our funding bodies.
Annual research income generated by the IODP research group is high, being in the region of £1.5million in the current year and the group issues a number of subcontracts with partner organisations. You will need to demonstrate attention to detail when working with finances and contracts and flexibility to be able to work to tight deadlines, and manage conflicting and frequently changing priorities. An exceptionally high level of initiative and a capacity to identify and solve problems is essential. You will work closely with academic, research and support staff in the Geology Department and with staff in the University's administrative offices. Managing your own time to ensure an effective service and, as the work is very much part of a team effort, you will be required to integrate quickly and easily as a member of the team.
