Postdoctoral Research Associate in Microstructural Modelling

The Department of Earth, Ocean and Ecological Sciences is seeking to recruit a highly motivated numerical modelling PDRA to create grain-scale models for mineral reactions and show how those models may be upscaled to provide rate laws for reaction under mantle conditions of pressure, temperature and stress. You will liaise closely with experimentalists in Manchester and University College London (UK) and Orleans (France) to ground-truth your models against their results and to inform the experimental program. You will be part of a team studying mantle dynamics, details of the project are here

Your role will be to create grain-scale models for mineral reactions and show how those models may be upscaled to provide rate laws for reaction under mantle conditions of pressure, temperature and stress. You will collaborate with other team members (Liverpool, Florida, Cardiff) to incorporate those rate laws into large scale models for mantle convection. You will liaise closely with experimentalists on the team (Liverpool, Manchester, UCL, Orleans) to ground-truth your models against their results. The whole team will contribute to comparing model results to seismological observations (Cambridge).
