Postdoctoral Fellowship: Biomineralisation of natural CaCO3 systemsA one year Postdoctoral fellowship (stipendia) is available at the interdisciplinary Earth System Science Research Centre Geocycles at the Johannes Gutenberg-University Mainz. The project is aimed at studying the formation and growth of natural biominerals, such as mollusk shells, bryozoa, sponge spicules, etc. by detailed chemical and structural analyses at the micro- and nano-scale. State-the-art micro- and nano-analytical facilities are available at the Johannes Gutenberg-University Mainz (e.g. SEM, TEM, LA-ICP-MS, EPMA, Micro-spectroscopic methods, etc.) or through collaboration (e.g. synchrotron methods). The Earth System Science Research Centre Geocycles offers the opportunity for intensive, integrated interdisciplinary cooperation. The willingness to work in an interdisciplinary research environment is therefore a prerequisite and collaboration with other research groups is expected. A grant of one year will be provided with the possibility of extension pending fund availability. Eligible candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Material Sciences or Geosciences with a strong background in instrumental analytical chemistry and crystallography and a good publication record. For further information you may visit http://www.geocycles.de/eng/index.php, Applications should include a cover letter outlining the motivation for applying and detailing the research interests, a CV with publication list, copies of scientific degrees and the names and contact information of two references. Applications are accepted until October 1st, 2010 or as soon as possible after this date via email to: PD Dr. Dorrit Jacob, mainz10091@earthworks-jobs.com. In addition applicants should arrange for a letter of recommendation to be sent directly by referees to the same address.
