Research Associate for the Missouri S&T Rock Characterization Laboratory

The Rock Characterization Laboratory supports and performs cutting edge research in geochemical rock characterization, physical rock property measurements and rock strength characterization. The lab houses a variety of modern equipment including: XRF, ICP-MS, high-res microscopes, porosimeters/permeameters, core cells, uniaxial and triaxial strength testing equipment.

Duties:

  • Assist faculty and graduate students in conducting laboratory-based research.
  • Collaborate with faculty to conduct research, including publications and the submission of grant proposals.
  • Mentor graduate students in performing experiments and analyzing data.
  • Maintain equipment, manage supplies, establish user training and safety guidelines, ensuring quality, troubleshooting methods and procedures.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with laboratory environment and instrumentation
  • Experience with geochemical and petrophysical analyses techniques
  • Experience with rock strength measurements
  • Track record of research achievement, including peer-reviewed publications
  • Computer knowledge and skills in lab information systems

Education requirements:

  • PhD (preferred) or a MSc in the geosciences or closely related discipline
