The Opportunity

The School of Earth Atmosphere and Environment (SEAE) invites applications from talented scientists to fill a new fixed term, three-year technical position (HEW Level 7) with possible extension for a further two years, in laser ablation mass spectrometry at the Monash ISOTOPIA laboratory. The role will assist and is part of a dynamic research group that aims to establish the origin and evolution of continents, from crust to lithospheric roots and their role in the long term development of the Earth system. Specific analytical tasks relate to in-situ concentration and isotope analyses in rocks and minerals.

The role is expected to support existing research but also develop new techniques and will be given the opportunity to explore new analytical boundaries. Key responsibilities involve the development of a split-stream system for combined isotope and trace element analyses using a multi-collector Thermo Fisher Neptune plus MC-ICP-MS and single collector triple-quad ICAP TQ ICP-MS.

The applicant should have demonstrated skills in the analyses of isotopes and trace elements in geomaterials and preferentially laser ablation techniques. Clean room experience will be seen as a bonus but is not essential.

You will assist in research of the highest international quality in a team of like-minded individuals. You will be given the opportunity to conduct own research within the framework of your role and publish your results in world-leading journals.

This role is a full-time position; however, flexible-working arrangements may be negotiated. We particularly encourage women to apply. Your application must address the selection criteria.

If you feel that you have the skills and experience to make this role a success, your application is most welcomed.

Your application must address the selection criteria. Please refer to "How to apply for Monash Jobs"
