Professor in Geochemistry



A position is available at the level of full professor in the Geochemistry Group of the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, the Graduate School of Environmental Studies, Nagoya University, Japan. The successful candidate is expected to take up the position on April 1st, 2011. Details of the position and requirements for candidates are given below. Description of Post

The Geochemistry Group of the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, Nagoya University pursues a program of research and education aimed at understanding the geochemical significance of a wide variety of terrestrial and planetary phenomena. The Geochemistry Group aims to use elemental, isotopic and age data to contribute to research and education both in a variety of interdisciplinary studies and to examine the significance of geochemical data based on fundamental principals of material science. Sample material currently examined includes terrestrial rocks, meteorites and fossils as well as recent sediments and other environmentally important material. Please refer to the home page in note*1 below for more details of research carried out by the Group members.

With this new appointment, the Geochemistry Group intends to strengthen its research and educational programs. The ideal candidate should have a balanced experience and knowledge related to analytical, experimental and theoretical geochemistry. They are expected to help develop collaboration within the Group (2*).

The candidate will be expected to teach at the Graduate School of Environmental Studies, and hold undergraduate courses for the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, including the general education program for first year undergraduate students.

Required Qualifications

  1. Ph D or equivalent degree
  2. 2) A proven track record of research in geochemistry, and a strong motivation to promote and carry out geochemical research and education.
  3. 3) Japanese language ability sufficient to carry out education and research at the time of appointment.

  5. List of external research grants obtained and awards wined
  6. Copies or reprints of main research papers (about 5 in total)
