About the School of Environmental and Life Sciences

The School of Environmental and Life Sciences is one of the University's largest schools, offering a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs. The School is highly active in research and research training with substantial numbers of Research Higher Degree students.

About the role

In this role you will contribute to teaching, supervision, research and research training in the Discipline of Earth Sciences. The preferred area of research interest is measuring and understanding climatic and environmental change, which could be addressed by:

  • Modelling landscape evolution
  • Unlocking the climate record from palaeoclimate data
  • Understanding the causes and impacts of hydroclimatic variability
  • Modelling the global climate or
  • Development of adaptation and decisions support information

Duties

  • Deliver teaching excellence
  • Contribute to the research undertaken by the Environmental and Climate Change Research Group (ECCRG)
  • Publish research outcomes
  • Gain competitive grant funding
  • Serve on relevant School and University committees

Skills & Experience

  • PhD in Earth Sciences or a related field
  • Capacity to teach into undergraduate courses in the Earth Science curriculum including Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing (including software MapInfo, ArcGIS and Idrisi)
  • Capacity to undertake and publish quality research
  • Ability to supervise honours students
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a cohesive team
  • Ability to secure external funding

Academic Level B $84,700 to $100,582 (or pro-rata for part-time employment) per annum, plus a generous employer superannuation contribution of up to 17%.
