![]() The Geological Survey of Norway (NGU), based in Trondheim, is the central national institute for knowledge of bedrock, mineral resources, surface deposits and groundwater of mainland Norway and of the near-surface geology of the Norwegian continental shelf. The survey's tasks include geological, geophysical and geochemical mapping, development and maintenance of databases, research, information activities and advice to governmental bodies and industry. NGU acquires, processes and interprets geophysical data both on a regional and detailed scale. The NGU staff of 220 includes representatives of 25 nationalities and 65 % of the staff are scientists. For general information about NGU's organisation and mandate, see www.ngu.no At NGU the following positions are vacant: Research Position in Bedrock GeologyA permanent position is vacant with the Bedrock geology team, starting as soon as possible. The team is undertaking bedrock mapping and a broad range of related research activities, and maintains relevant databases over mainland Norway. The successful candidate will take part in bedrock mapping and data compilation in a variety of projects, including projects related to the investigation of mineral resources in Norway. Research tasks within e.g. geochronology, geochemistry, petrology and structural geology will commonly be linked to prioritised field and mapping projects. NGU seeks a candidate with a completed PhD degree and with a documented field and mapping experience. The applicant should demonstrate the ability to work independently, as well as within a multidisciplinary team, and be motivated to exchange ideas and results with colleagues.
