Scientist in economic geology

The Geological Survey of Norway (NGU) has a vacant position for a scientists/senior scientist in economic geology.

The position is hosted by the Mineral Resource Team, which currently consists of 15 geologists and engineers working with projects within various aspects of ore and industrial minerals geology. Projects are generally research based and coordinated through commodity themes or regions, but may also include database and compilation work aimed at informing and educating stakeholders in the society. The team is responsible for a number of databases and has considerable cooperation with universities, public administration, industry and foreign sister organizations.

NGU invites applications from research-minded candidates who have documented expertise in ore or industrial minerals geology, preferably within one or more of the following fields:

  • Magmatic ore deposits
  • Volcanogenic massive sulphides
  • Industrial minerals

Candidates are expected to have an all-round approach to the fields in which they have worked, and to have documented their ability to report and publish their conclusions, including communication with a non-scientific audience. Experience with, and willingness to perform, fieldwork is essential. NGU has in-house capabilities for advanced mineral characterization and geochronology, and skills or experience in fields which are important for the understanding of metallogeny, prospectivity and ore deposits formation, such as geochemistry, geochronology and geophysics are important.

We can offer a favorable working environment, unique scientific challenges and good possibilities for participation in international forums and in further education programs. NGU sees diversity as a strength for the business performance, and encourages qualified candidates to apply, regardless of age, gender, disability, national or ethnic background. NGU is an Inclusive Workplace enterprise, and we will facilitate for applicants with disabilities.
