![]() Vacant positions with the Geological Survey of Norway (NGU)The Geological Survey of Norway (NGU), based in Trondheim, is the central national institute for knowledge of the bedrock, mineral resources, surface deposits and groundwater of mainland Norway and of the near-surface geology of the Norwegian continental shelf. The Survey's tasks include geological, geophysical and geochemical mapping, development and maintenance of databases, research, information activities and advice to governmental bodies and industry. The NGU staff of 225 includes representatives of 22 nationalities and 65% of the staff are scientists. For general information about NGU's organisation and mandate, please see www.ngu.noThe Centre for Geodynamics at NGU invites applicants for: 1 Post-doc fellowship in Geodynamics for 3 yearsThe position will be part of a project funded by the Norwegian research council aimed at investigating geodynamic aspects of the life cycle of a subduction zone. The project will use and develop numerical models to study the evolution of subduction, terrane accretion and collision. Collaborations with national and international institutes is expected, such as through the EU Network Crust-to-Core (www.c2c-rtn.eu) that focuses on the role of mineralogy and rheology in subduction zones. The Centre for Geodynamics at NGU (www.geodynamics.no) investigates the dynamics of lithosphere and mantle and their relation to plate motions through palaeomagnetic methods, marine geophysical techniques and the development of new modelling and visualisation software. The successful candidate should preferably have a background in Earth Sciences or Physics and have experience in computational methods (e.g. finite element or finite difference methods) and/or have a solid understanding of geological and geodynamic aspects of subduction zones. Applicants must have completed their Ph.D. education at the time the position starts. NGU encourages applications from female scientists. We can offer a favourable working environment, unique scientific challenges and good possibilities for international collaborations. A kindergarten is run by and for NGU employees. For further information, please contact Dr. Susanne Buiter, tlf +47 73 904265) or Division Director of the Geoscience division Øystein Nordgulen, tel. 73 90 4245). Applicants should send (1) a curriculum vitae, (2) a list of publications, (3) a statement of research interests and (4) the names and e-mail addresses of two persons willing to write a reference in one PDF-file, to www.ngu.no/vacancies.
