Analytical Chemist / Geochemist (Maternity cover)

Salary: 29,154 - 35,164 (depending on experience) per annum plus benefits
Contract: Fixed term, 12 months

The museum seeks to recruit an experienced chemical or geochemical analyst to join a team of scientists in the Imaging & Analysis Centre. This is a maternity cover post is available for 12 months and requires the individual to work across a number of applications, including ICP-OES/AES, organic elemental analysis, geological sample preparation and other chemical/geochemical techniques. As well as supporting the museum's research and curation programmes, and analytical consultancy work, the post holder may have opportunity to engage in collaborative research.

The successful candidate is expected to have a strong interest in the application of advanced analytical instrumentation and analysis in answering research questions within natural sciences. In addition the post holder will be expected to interpret results, train new users and carry out first line maintenance on equipment and ensure workplace health and safety protocols are adhered to.

You will be encouraged to contribute to the scientific development and technical applications in the Imaging & Analysis Centre, and be responsible for data output and analysis.

The post holder will provide specialised technical support and supervision for a wide range of stakeholders, including staff, postgraduate students and external users (including visiting scientists) in the development of projects and preparation of reports.
