The Department of Geology at University of Otago, New Zealand (www.otago.ac.nz/geology), seeks applicants from any field of geosciences for two confirmation-path [tenure track] positions as Lecturer in Geology. Appointees would start duties by early 2012.
Applicants must be active researchers with publications that show potential for a stellar career.
Appointees will be expected to maintain a high level of research activity and to contribute to the departmental research profile through high-quality research publications, supervision of postgraduate students, and participation in the national and international scientific community. Support will be provided to help appointees apply for research funding.
Applicants must have experience in university teaching, and must be ready, willing and able to teach outside their research speciality. Appointees will help teach established courses at undergraduate level (including field classes), and will help with teaching-related administration.
One appointee is likely to contribute significantly to teaching in petrology.
Appointees will be expected to help with departmental administration and University service.
Applicants must have completed a PhD or equivalent, and must be able to take advantage of the dynamic geological environment of New Zealand for teaching and research. Applicants must provide a personal statement of up to 1500 words explaining how their skills, knowledge, experience and aspirations will complement, strengthen, and extend the activities summarised on our website. The statement should address both research (particularly directions for the initial 3 to 5 years) and teaching.
