Professor of Geophyisics

Department of Earth Sciences in association with St Cross College, Oxford

The University seeks to appoint a world-class Earth Scientist with a keen interest in establishing new research programmes in the field of geophysics. The Chair of Geophysics is one of three University statutory professorships held in the Department. Candidates for this prestigious post should have an outstanding record in innovative research and visible international leadership in the Earth Sciences.

Areas of expertise could cover the sub fields of: marine geophysics; tectonic systems; ice sheet and cryosphere physics; earthquake geology and geodesy; geomagnetism; geodynamics; and seismology. The successful candidate will undertake research and teaching in earth sciences, including lectures and practical classes, field courses, and supervision of projects and doctoral students. They will also be expected to undertake examining and relevant administrative roles.

Start date: 1 September 2019, or as soon as possible thereafter.

The post is offered at the same time as the Professorship of Geology at University College. Candidates who wish to be considered for both posts must submit separate applications.
