Geophysicist vacancy

We are seeking a geophysicist with experience in engineering, environmental or archaeological geophysics or in utility tracing.

We currently have one vacancy but the position will either be a project geophysicist or a project manager, depending on experience. The project geophysicist's responsibilities will include leading survey teams, interpreting data and report writing and for this position you will have a minimum of 3 years commercial experience. To be considered for a project manager role you must have at least 6 years commercial experience and have proven leadership and management skills. The project manager will be involved in helping develop the business as well as carrying out and managing field work projects and for the right candidate, who can help us move the business forward, we will consider offering shares in the company.

Either position will require that you are skilled in a variety of geophysical techniques and will have experience of working independently and as part of a team. The techniques that we use include ground penetrating radar (GPR), electromagnetics (EM), magnetics, radio frequency location (RFL) microgravity, resistivity imaging and seismics. Experience in all of these is not essential, but you should have specialities in at least two of the techniques.

The successful candidate must be motivated, enthusiastic, enjoy working outside and have the ability to work to tight deadlines. We are looking for someone to be involved in project work on a day to day basis but who can also help us grow the business and expand. We are looking for individuals who are keen to take on added responsibility as their experience grows.

Phase is a small but ambitious non-intrusive survey company and we looking to build on a successful first three years where we have been able to develop a consistent and varied workload despite the recession and significant downturn in the construction industry. We are now ideally placed to expand and require the right candidates to help us do this. We are based in Darlington but undertake surveys across the UK and so the flexibility to work away from home is crucial, as is a full UK driving licence.

If you are up to the challenges of leading a team and wish to gain further experience in a wide variety of geophysical applications or if you already have significant experience and wish to take that extra step in being involved in running a company then this could be the position for you. All of our work is in near-surface investigations and so candidates purely with experience in the oil and gas sectors would not be considered. Candidates who do not have the required commercial experience will not be considered.

The remuneration package will be dependent on experience.

To discuss this position please contact Mark Whittingham or send a CV and covering letter via email. Please state clearly your current experience and how this relates to the services that we offer or could potentially offer as well as details or your current responsibilities and salary.
