Lecturer in Igneous Petrology


£30,747 to £43,840 pa

We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Igneous Petrology with effect from 1 August 2010 or as close to this date as existing commitments for the successful candidate permit.

You should hold, or be very close to completing, a PhD or equivalent in a relevant field and be able to demonstrate a proven track record of research through publication in high impact journals and potential to attract significant external funding. You will be able to demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching and an ability to conduct and maintain a programme of cutting-edge research in Igneous Petrology.

You will be required to teach undergraduate and honours courses in Igneous Petrology and related aspects of Earth Science, supervise honours, MSc and PhD student research projects. You will participate in the development of the departmental undergraduate and honours curriculum and participate in departmental administration. You will also seek funding for a productive personal research programme.

You should have a PhD or equivalent in Igneous Petrology or Igneous Geochemistry, a track record of research in the field of igneous processes, excellent research skills, as evidenced by publications in high-profile international, peer-reviewed journals and the ability to teach Igneous Petrology from a geochemical and/or tectonic perspective.
